Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve ignitability by arranging an intake air heating means on the way of an intake passage between the blower of a supercharger and an intake manifold and circulating high temperature intake air through the intake manifold before cranking when an engine starts. CONSTITUTION:In a diesel engine with a two-stage supercharger comprising high and low pressure stage exhaust turbo superchargers 20a, 20b respectively between an exhaust manifold 14 and an intake passage 16, an auxiliary bypass passage 38 communicating with a turbine 22a is connected to the down stream side of the blower 26a of the high pressure stage turbo supercharger 20a. On the way of passage 38, a control valve 39 and a heat exchanger (an intake air heating means) 40 including a burner 41 are installed. And a bypass passage 44 communicating with the turbine 22a is connected to an intake manifold 12, further a control valve 45 is interposed on the way thereof. Accordingly, each of bypass valves 32, 35 and 36 is switched in order to circulate high temperature intake air through an intake manifold 12 before cranking when an engine starts.
