Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable TIG one side welding of stainless steel to be readily accomplished without using back shielding gas by coating the flux containing the limited amount of TiO2 at the specific ratio on the stainless steel core wire. CONSTITUTION:The flux containing 30-85% of TiO2 is mixed with a binder such as water glass so as to become 5-25% based on the weight of the filler rod and the mixture is covered and coated on a stainless steel core wire, after which it is dried and fired. When this filler rod is used, the filler rod is melted by arc heat at the time of TIG welding and the weld metal forms back beads. At the same time, the slag produced at that time encloses the back beads thereby preventing the oxidation by the atmospheric air. Hence, even if back shielding gas is not used, it becomes possible to obtain the sound back beads.
