Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the toughness of electrogas arc weld zone, by filling the metal outer surface of compound wire of 2mm or less in diameter with a specified amount of slag forming agent such as Si and Mn in the specified state, and welding at the current density of 250-400A/mm<2>. CONSTITUTION:A metal outer surface is filled with, as indispensable flux components by the wire weight ratio, 0.1-1.3% of Si, 1-3.5% of Mn, 0.6-6% of slag forming agent of which principal component is metal fluoride such as CaF2, and necessary amount of iron powder, the filling flux density is set to 3g/cm<2> or more, the area ratio of filling flux to the wire sectional area to 20-30%, and the current is set so that the current density flowing in the compound wire of which diameter is 2mm or less may be 250-400A/mm<2> to perform welding. This method drops the fusion input heat, is applicable widely from mild steel to 50kg HT steel, and 60kg HT steel, and is capable of producing weld zone possessing excellent notch toughness.
