Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance of TiC-base cermet as well as to provide impact resistance by uniformly dispersing 1W30vol% of TiC grains with an average grain size of 7μm or more and binding phase pools with an average diameter of 3W 10μm in the cermet structure.
CONSTITUTION: By uniformly dispersing 1W30vol% of TiC grains with an average grain size of 7μm or more and binding phase pools (grained binding phase dispersed in structure) with an average diameter of 3W10μm in the structure of TiC-base cermet, impact resistance about equal or superior to that of ordinary TiC-base cermet and superior wear resistance are provided to the TiC-base cermet. Part of the above-mentioned ultra coarse grain TiC component may be replaced by one or more out of the carbides and nitrides of the IVa, Va and VIa group metals in the periodic table within the range less than 50% in relative percentage to further enhance the impact resistance. Both of the TiC and the replaced TiC may be used.
