Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance of TiC-base cermet without lowering the impact resistance by composing part of the TiC of coarse grains with an average grain size of 7μm or more within the range of 1W30% of the total percentage and uniformly dispersing the grains in the cermet structure.
CONSTITUTION: By composing part of the TiC of TiC-base cermet of coarse grains with an average grain size of 7μm or more and/or grains of a double cpd. consisting of TiC≥50mol% and one or more out of the carbides and nitrides of the IVa, Va and VIa group metals in the periodic table within the range of 1W30vol% of the total percentage and by uniformly dispersing those ultra coarse grains in the cermet structure, the wear resistance of the cermet is considerably enhanced without lowering the superior impact resistance of ordinary TiC-base cermet in which the above- mentioned coarse grains are not present.
