Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the strength of sintered ore without lowering the reduction powdering by crushing the ore to form a laterally moving type packed bed; reheating the crushed ore with hot inert gas by heat exchange; forming a vertical type moving bed; and cooling the ore with countercurrently flowing cold gas.
CONSTITUTION: A sintered cake discharged from sintering mechine 1 is crushed with crusher 2 and fed to hopper 4. The crushed ore is transferred onto moving grate 5a of reheating unit 5 and reheated to about 1000°C with hot inert gas of such a temp. that sintered ore from piping 23 is not melted. The reheated crushed ore is then discharged into hopper 7 and falls through cooler 8, where it is cooled with countercurrently flowing cold inert gas supplied from piping 10 until the sintered ore reaches discharge outlet 8a. By this reheating and cooling treatment with the inert gases the strength of the sintered ore can be raised without lowering productivity.
