Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the reoxidation of reduced chromium pellets and to improve the handling characteristic thereof by subjecting the high-temp. reduced chromium pellets which are discharged after particulate chromium ore are reduced in a rotary kiln to water cooling under the adjustment of water cooling time. CONSTITUTION:The reduced chromium pellets 5 obtd. by reducing the particulate chromium ore in the rotary kiln 1 are discharged via a chute 4 to a rotary cooler 30 where the pellets are cooled. The cooled pellets are taken out of the cooler. The cooling water fed by a pump 6 is supplied from spray nozzles 3 to the chute 4 to form water films and to cool the above-mentioned pellets 5 in the process for production of the above-mentioned reduced chromium pellets. The flow rate of the cooling water is controlled by a flow meter 7, a control valve 8 and a distribution valve 9 to adjust the water cooling time at this time. The reduced chromium pellets 5 are thereby sufficiently cooled during the passage through the cooler 30, by which the reoxidation thereof is prevented. In addition, the water sticking to the pellets is evaporated and removed by recuperation heat, by which the degradation in the handling characteristic thereof is prevented.
