Abstract

PURPOSE: To contain predetermined moisture in molding sand by measuring the temperature of radiant heat of castings before they are carried into a cooling device and controlling the rate of water spraying of a cooling device based on the thus measured temperatures.
CONSTITUTION: The castings 20 and molding sand having been knocked out are intermittently charged onto the trough 2 of a conveyor 1 and pass below a radiant heat detector 12. There, the temperatures of the castings 20 are measured and a temperature detector 6 measures the temperature of the molding sand. The thus measured values are transmitted to a control unit 11 which in turn opens solenoid valves 22, 23 so that water spraying in a cooling device 3 is accomplished from water spray nozzles 18, 19. The castings 20 and the molding sand having entered the inside of the cooling device 3 are cooled while being agitated by the rotation of the cooling device 3 and are thereby separated, thus the molding sand is discharged in a state of containing desired moisture through a discharge port 10 and falls onto a coveyor 24.
