Abstract
1344390 Cooling moulds PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 26399/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division G3] In a casting apparatus where moulds are sequentially presented to at least two waterspray cooling stations, a first station sprays the moulds with a predetermined constant rate of flow while a following station sprays the moulds intermittently or at a rate as determined by a device measuring the temperature of the moulds. Centrifugal casting moulds 2 rotating about horizontal axes are presented sequentially to a cleaning station I, coating station II, casting station III, cooling stations IV, V, VI and extracting station VII by clockwise rotation of a turntable 1. At cooling stations IV and V water is sprayed on the moulds from pipes 8a at a rate determined by setting a flow regulator 10. At cooling station VI the spray water flow in conduit 8b is controlled in accordance with the temperature of the mould in station VII measured by a pyrometer 17 which feeds a signal to a pneumatic or electronic control device 15. The control device 15 operates an electrically actuated cut-off valve 14, through a line 19 such that when a predetermined low mould temperature is detected the cooling spray is stopped and when a predetermined high mould temperature is detected the cooling spray is recommenced. Alternatively the cut-off valve 14 can be replaced by a flow rate controller 13 which is operated by controller 15 in dependence on the measured mould temperature through a line 19a. The mould temperature can be indirectly measured by determining the temperature of the castings P just after ejection from the moulds at station VII.
