Abstract

1411694 Cooling discharged material KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 4 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 21387/73 Heading F4B Lumpy material discharged from a rotary kiln a into a shaft cooler 1 is cooled by air supplied by a fan 4 to a distributer 3, part of the air travelling upwardly as per the arrows 7 and part travelling downwardly as per the arrows 11 to be collected in a herd 5 over the rotary discharger 2 and returned to the fan 4 by line 6. Additional air enters this stream as per the arrows 10. A pressure sensor 21 in the upper part of the shaft sends a signal through a transducer 22 and controller 23 to actuate either the fan 4 or a valve in line 6. Radiation equipment 24, 25 affected by the charge level controls the speed of discharger 2 through controller 26. In a modification, (Fig. 2) the cooled material is discharged by rollers (12) and a gas collector (13) above this collects the mixed cool and hot air for transmission to the fan 4. Another modification (Fig. 3) has an endless belt discharger (16) at the port of the shaft and an additional gas distributer in the upper part of the shaft. A final modification (Fig. 4) has similar gas distribution arrangements but the shaft is discharged by a sloping oscillating carriage 20.
