Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform grooving of superior volume productivity and economic efficiency by photoetching the grooves for receiving the optical fibers to be axially aligned and connected on the surface of a substrate of glass material. CONSTITUTION:Grooves 2 for receiving optical fibers are worked on a glass substrate 1 to provide the connector for optical fibers. To manufacture said connector, a protecting film such as silver plating is attached on the surface of the glass substrate 1 and photosensitive agent is coated thereon, after which a photographic original plate having strip-form patterns is contact-printed, thence it is rinsed to wash away the unsensed agent, followed by etching the protecting film of the exposed portions with a silver etching solution. Next, the glass surface of the exposed portions is etched with a glass etching solution, by which the V-form grooves 2 are worked on the glass substrate 1 surface, whereby the required connector is obtained. Since the connector is of the glass of the same material as the optical fiber, the reliability of the optical fibers after the connection is extremely high.
