Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent corrosion of a heating tube of a superheater due to high temperature thereof by constituting the heating tube such that portions thereof at which the temperature of the tube wall gets relatively high have a reduced diameter compared with the remaining portions of the heating tube.
CONSTITUTION: A boiler 1 consists of a furnace section 1A having a spray burner 6 provided thereto, and a superheater 2 to which a set of generating tubes 4 are connected. Combustion causes an ash bed 7 of inorganic salts to be formed on the bottom of the furnace section 1A. The furnace section 1A has a sufficiently large magnitude, compared with a conventional boiler which utilizes fossil fuels, to assure satisfactory evaporation of water and to prevent such inorganic salts from carrying over to a convection heating surface of the superheater 2. Accordingly, gas at the entrance of the superheater is at a low temperature. The superheater 2 extends over the furnace section 1A by way of a nose baffle 5 in order to increase the area of its heating surface. Part of a heating tube 8 positioned at a portion of the superheater 2 which extends from the nose baffle 5 has reduced diameter 8A compared with the remaining part of the heating tube 8 so that flow is accelerated in the reduced diameter section of the heating tube 8 to thereby reduce the temperature of the tube wall of such section of the heating tube 8.
