  • Treatment Of Water By Ion Exchange (AREA)

Abstract

PURPOSE: To simply regenerate the ion exchange resin layers of a double-layer bed by letting a regenerating agent flow in the layers as rising streams from the lower part of the layers to attain a predetermined expansion coefficient while fluidizing the layers after finishing passage of water to be treated through the layers as falling streams, thereby carrying out back washing, feed of chemicals and pressing in common.
CONSTITUTION: Water 2 to be treated is passed through upper WC (weakly acidic cation exchange resin) layer 3 and lower SC (strongly acidic cation exchange resin) layer 4 of a double-layer bed from the upper part of ion exchange tower 1 as falling streams. Thus, cations in the water are ion exchanged to obtain treated water 5. Immediately after finishing passage of water 2 through the bed, acid regenerating agent 6 is diluted with desalted water and let to flow in the bed through equal distributor 8 from the lower part of tower 1 as rising streams. At this time, layers 4,3 are separately fluidized and expanded by 20W120% with agent 6, and waste liquor 10 after regeneration is discharged through collector 9. The regenerated layers are settled to form a regenerated double-layer bed consisting of upper layer 3 and lower layer 4 again.
