Abstract
PURPOSE: The gas-phase reaction of aniline with a lower alkyl alcohol is conducted using a heterogeneous catalyst under normal pressure to produce title compound in high selectivity.
CONSTITUTION: The gas-phase reaction of an aniline derivative of formula I (X is H, halogen and lower alkyl) as aniline and a lower alkyl alcohol as methanol is conducted in the presence of a mixed catalyst selected from B, Al, and Fe, such as boron phosphate-aluminum phosphate in an inert gas as nitrogen at 200W300°C to produce an N-substituted aniline formula II (R1, R2 are H, or lower alkyl and at least one is always a lower alkyl).
EFFECT: The errosion of the reaction equipment caused by the catalyst can be prevented and there is no formation of ethers causing the formation of explosive peroxides.
USE: Chemicals, especially for dyes, additives for rubber, intermediates for medicines, agricultural chemicals and explosives.
