Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent corrosion of apparatus parts by placing an insol. anode and a reference electrode to positions at which they contact with seawater without short circuit to the parts, and running the apparatus while suitably holding the potential of the parts used as cathodes.
CONSTITUTION: Insol. anode 23 such as lead-silver alloy or platinum-plated titanium and reference electrode 24 such as zinc are attached to water chamber 22 made of steel lined with a copper alloy, etc. with heat resistant insulating material 29 such as epoxy resin in-between. They are then connected to power source 25. Chamber 22, tube sheets 5, etc. are used as cathodes, and a current is supplied while holding the potential difference between chamber 22 and electrode 24 at -0.5W-0.65 V by means of potentiometer 27. Thus, galvanic corrosion of copper alloy parts can be prevented simply, and hydrogen absorption of titanium parts can be controlled to a nearly satisfactory level. Accordingly, the hot degassed seawater treating apparatus can elongate its life.
