Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a miniature frequency converter for vestigial side-band amplitude-modulated waves such as TV broadcast waves which is able to obtain high- output SHF-band vestigial side band amplitude-modulated waves with its simple- circuit constitution without using a vestigial side-band filter.
CONSTITUTION: A conversion-input vestigial side-band amplitude-modulated wave from input terminal 1 is passed through AGC circuit AGC and amplifier Al to obtain a constant-input-level amplitude modulated wave, which is applied to envelope detectors Ds and Da for symmetrical and asymmetrical components, so that symmetrical-component and asymmetrical component detection outputs Fst and Fat will appear at respective output terminals. Those detection outputs Fst and Fat are applied to modulators Ms and Ma supplied with the output of the oscillator with the 2nd oscillation frequency (fs) to be converted, where the carrier of the frequency of the oscillator is amplitude-modulated by detection output Fst and amplitude-balanicing modulation is also attached by detection output Fat. Then, outputs of both modulators Ms and Ma are mixed by mixer circuit A, so that a vestigial side-band amplitude-modulated wave with the carrier of the 2nd frequency will be outputted.
