Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize a miniature and simple unit of high performance and high reliability, by using a frequency converter and band-limiting filter using an elastic surface-wave element.
CONSTITUTION: This unit consists of vestigial side-band filter, video carrier oscillator 32, sound carrier oscillator 36, a frequency modulator, etc. An elastic surface- wave element with thin comb line electrodes formed on its substrate surface has filter characteristics, and this is used for vestigial side-band filter 31 to provide band-filtering characteristics and video signal equalizing characteristics. The output of oscillator 32 is AM-modulated by amplitude modulator 34 by using a video signal compensated by compensating pre-amplifier 33 and its output has its upper- side wave and lower-side wave suppressed and is led to power amplifier 35. As a result, envelope delay distortion can be improved. Further, an IF VSB filter function and phase equalizing function are provided, so that the need for a required circuit can be eliminated. Additionally, even a sound system uses it as an oscillation filter to FM-modulate the output of oscillator 36 by a sound signal, obtaining high stability.
