Abstract

PURPOSE: Porous ceramic of three dimensional net cell structure having interally connected space is coated on its lattice-type surface with a predetermined weight amount of activated alumina. The coated product is useful as catalyst carrier having a good catalytic activity rise up and is adapted for use in oxidizing treatment of exhaustion gas from petroleum burning warmer.
CONSTITUTION: A desirably-shaped, three-dimensional-structure soft polyurethane foam is dipped into a ceramic slurry normally consisting of silica, alumina and magnesia. The ceramic-deposited foam is fired at a temperature of 1000 to 1800°C and formed into a porous ceramic body having a bulk density of 0.25 to 0.5. Then, the porous ceramic body is coated with a slurry of an activated alumina material such as gamma-alumina on the lattice surface of the ceramic body, excess slurry is removed, dried, and fired at 400 to 800°C. Thus, the process provides a catalyst carrier of porous ceramic body having coated activated alumina on the surface thereof, and having cnaracteristics as described.
