Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a molded body having superior activity, capable of being used over a very long time, and undergoing no deterioration in the strength by molding a kneaded composition consisting of fine grains of activated carbon and sinterable or heat fusible inorg. powder and by carrying out calcination in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: Sinterable or heat fusible inorg. material powder is kneaded with fine grains of activated carbon to prepare a composition as starting material. This composition is molded into a desired shape and calcined in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to obtain a porous molded body of a activated carbon in which fine grains 2 of activated carbon as the matrix are joined together with the inorg. material 1 and supported. The material 1 is formed by sintering and/or fusing the inorg. material powder existing among the matrix in a three-dimensionally and irregularly continuous state.
