Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance absorption sensitivity by quiding the Hg vapor, which is generated in a reaction chamber, into an absorption metering cell with the use of a liquid.
CONSTITUTION: Under the condition having a cock 18 closed, a plug 2 of a reaction chamber 1 is opened to pour a sample 3 and a reducing agent, and then the plug 2 is colsed. A magnet 15 is turned so that the sample and the agent may be mixed by a stirring member 16. Then, the cock 18 is opened to pour water into the chamber 1 from an overflow tank 17 which is always supplied with water from water service so that water level may be the same as the inlet 19 of an absorption measuring cell 6. As a result, the Hg vapor, which is generated as an atomic vapor and reserved in a space 21, is introduced into the cell 6, which is heated to a temperature slightly higher than that of the sample 3, so that it may be measured. After the measurement, the cock 18 is closed, and an air supply pump 4 is started to feed the gases from the cell 6 into a trap 7. Then, a cock 13 is opened to discharge the sample 3 so that the inside of the chamber 1 is replaced with clean air.
