Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a high toughness high tensile steel sheet for pipes with low welding crack sensibility and no lowering in yueld strength due to pipe making by adding Mo and Cu to steel and regulating hot rolling concitions.
CONSTITUTION: Steel contg. C; 0.02W0.10%, Si: 0.05W0.50%, Mn; 1.0W1.8%, Cu; 0.15W0.45%, Mo; 0.08W0.25%, Nb; 0.01W0.10%, Al; 0.005W0.06%, and optionally one or more cut of Ni<0.50%, Cr<0.50%, V<0.20%, Ti<0.10%, Zr<0.1%, a rare earth element <0.05% and Ca<0.005% is hot rolled at a total reduction ratio above 50% at above 900°C and the rolling is finished at a temp. above Ar3 transformation point. The combined addn. of Mo and Cu regulates the areal percentage of bainite or acicular ferrite in the structre to 3W15%. When a line pipe is made of the resulting sheet, the yield strength is not lowered by the pipe making and the welding crack sensibility is low.
