Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the number of thyristors in a plasma exciting DC breaker by commonly using certain phase two arms of thyristor power supply arms with the main thyristor of the thyristor breaker to thereby eliminate the thyristor corresponding to the conventional two-arm type.
CONSTITUTION: The functions of the arms 7,8 and main thyristor 11 in the conventional two-arm type thyristor are conducted only by the arms 19, 20 of the thyristor power supply. The main thyristor 11 is, for example, divided into two sets of serial thyristors 19, 20, which are replaced by the positions of the arms 7, 8 with disconnecting switches 21 to 23. The respective switches 21 to 23 are closed to operate the arms 3 to 6, 19, 20 as normal 6-phase bridge to accumulate current in a current transformer coil 17. After the current reaches predetermined value, the arms 19, 20 are bypassed in a paiv, the switches 21 to 23 are opened, a gate signal is appliedto an auxiliary thyristor 14 so as to thus break the currents of the arms 19, 20. They are operated then in the same manner as the conventional thyristors to generate high voltage at both ends of the coil 17 so as to excite the plasma 18
