Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the OFF loss of an inverter switching element at the time of the output short-circuit by connecting a switching element in parallel with a filter capacitor and rendering the switching element conductive at the time of the presence of overcurrent.
CONSTITUTION: A short-circuit protection circuit 9 including a thyristor 5 is provided in parallel with a filter capacitor 3 in a voltage type inverter DC circuit using a thyristor or transistor. Thus, upon occurrence of an output short-circuit or arm short-circuit the thyristor 5 is fired to cause discharge of the filter capacitor 3.
