Abstract
965,059. Protective arrangements; arc preventing in switches. CONTINENTAL ELEKTROINDUSTRIE A.G. VOIGHT & HAEFFNER. Jan. 10, 1963 [Jan. 13, 1962], No. 1143/63. Headings H2B and H2K. A high voltage electric switchgear includes at least two separate switches 1, 2, each being suitable for a different current/voltage phase relationship and being operable in sequence to open a power circuit, and is provided with a phase detecting arrangement 7, 8, 9 which determines the order in which the switches open. As shown, the two switches each have multiple series-connected contacts with voltage equalizing capacitors 3. The switch 1 may be of oil immersed type suitable for heavy currents while switch 2 may be of the vacuum or compressed air type suitable for lighter capacitive currents. Normally switch 2 opens first, the circuit then being broken by switch 1 but if the device 8 detects a sufficient phase difference between the current and voltage, derived from two transformers 7, 9, respectively, the sequence is reversed by means of a valve 11.
