Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the subject method of carrying out hot extrusion of Ti or Zr or an alloy thereof by use of an extrusion die made of a Ni base super alloy of a specific Fe content, thereby to prevent the subject baking to secure a fine and smooth surface condition and improve the quality and productivity and reduce the cost.
CONSTITUTION: In hot extrusion of Ti, Zr, a Ti alloy or a Zr alloy, a Ni base alloy of less than 15% of Fe content is used as an extrusion die thereby to effectively prevent the baking of the extrusion material and the die and to facilitate extrusion operations of tubular materials, rod materials and the like of arbitrary shapes and dimensions such as those of small diameters, small thicknesses and long widths to remarkably improve the surface qualities. As Ni base super alloys, for example, those composed of c; 0.05-0.25%, Si; ≤0.1%, Mn; ≤10%, Ni; 35-60%, Cr; 13-22%, Mo; ≤6%, Co; 14-23%, Al; ≤5%, Ti; 0.8-4%, V; less than 3%, and Fe; ≤15% are used
