Abstract

PURPOSE: To remarkably improve the polishing workability of an Ni-Cu alloy by adjusting the alloy to a composition consisting of a specified amount each of Ni, Cu, Mn, Si and Fe.
CONSTITUTION: In order to prepare nonmagnetic Monel metal an alloy consisting of 57W63wt% Ni and the balance Cu is used. The ≥57% Ni content is to maintain the high Young's modulus. To make the material clean in melting and casting ≥1.5wt% in total of Mn and Si is used as a deoxidizer. Since Fe causes astral flaws in polishing, the Fe content of the alloy is adjusted to ≤0.1% which is inevitably contained in Cu and Ni materials.
