Abstract

PURPOSE: To considerably increase the number of erase cycles and achieve the improvement in reliability by evaporating the thin film of tungsten trioxide on a transparent conductive film so that the characteristics of forming a color when applied with voltage are provided to one layer and the other layer is let to form no colors.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent conductive film 12 is deposited on a transparent substrate 11, and two layers of thin films 13, 14 of tungsten trioxide are evaporated thereon. For a back electrode 15, e.g., Al metal film is used. Here, one of two layers of tungsten trioxide films has the characteristics of forming a color when applied with voltage and the other has the characteristics of not forming any color.
