Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent coagulation of particles by stirring the lower part of a flow layer, to take out, from the upper part of the flow layer active particles together with a part of water under treatment and send them back to the flow layer after micro- organisms are removed from them, and thereby to operate biological denitrification more effectively.
CONSTITUTION: Unprocessed water containing nitorus or nitric compounds is drawn from supply intake 1 into a denitrification reaction tower and is brought into contact on dispersion plate 3 with flow layer 4 consisting of denitrifying-bacteria- attached active particles and is sujected to detrification reaction, and then the water under treatment is discharged from pipe 2. In the lower part of flow layer 4, coagulation of sedimentary particles is prevented by means of a stirrer 5. Active particles to which micro-organisms are attched excessively and which have low specific gravities are taken out together with water under treatment sent from pipe 7 provided in the upper part of the flow layer and are passed through pump 8, and thereby excessive micro-organisms are removed from the particles, and then the water is sent back to the reaction tank from pipe 6
