Abstract

PURPOSE: To clean and regenerate sand-like material in simple and efficient manner, by contacting sand-like material contaminated with bad-odor emitting substance with ozone containing gas or ozone containing water.
CONSTITUTION: Sand-like material used in settling basin of urine or sewerage treating plant or water cleaning plant is taken out into a cleaning and regenerating tank, where aerating air is supplied into ducts by means of turbo fan and ozone is also supplied from silent discharge type ozone generator. Here, it is preferable that amout of ozone is 2W3 times as much as that of bad-odor emitting substances at the molar ratio and concentration of the same in the air is about 500 ppm. Exhaust gas is passed through ozone decomposing tank filled with active carbon and discharged to the outside after adsorbing bad-odor emitting matters oxidized and decomposed by ozone. With such an arrangement, it is possible to regenerate sand-like material efficiently in a short while and to carry out the treatment with an economical equipment, with no fear of arousing enviromental pollution
