Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to judge accurately the existence of the danger of a clash by finging the sum of and difference between distances between two radar antennas arranged on the right and left of a vehicle, and an obstacle. CONSTITUTION:The 1st FM-CW radar 3 and 2nd FM-CW radar 4 which have 1st antenna 1 and 2nd antenna 2 with 90 deg.-different polarization surface at 1st fixed point 13 and 2nd fixed point 14 on the front left and righ sides of a vehicle measure independently distances to front obstacle 18, and digital signals are obtained by 1st F-D converter 5 and 2nd F-D converter 6 and then inputted to adders 7 and 8 respectively. The position of obstacle 18 is found by calculating the intersection between then sum (one trace of ellipse group 15) of distances from both antennas to obstacle 18 and the difference in distance (one of trace of hyperbola group 16) and collation circuit 10 compares it to a signal from circuit 9 stored with danger region 17 according to the speed of the vehicle, so that when the both agree each other, a braking signal will be outputted.
