Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the incoming azimuth of electric waves independently of the frequency of the incoming waves, by dividing each output of two antennas into two portions, delaying one of the portions, determining the phase difference between the delayed portion and the undelayed portion and calculating the incoming angle of the electric waves. CONSTITUTION:Electric waves incoming in a direction H' are received by antennas 201, 202. Signals from the antennas are divided into other signals A, C, B, D by distributors 203, 204. The signals A, B are processed through a phase detector 207 and a phase angle calculation circuit 209 so that the phase difference thetaa between the signals is applied to an azimuth calculation circuit 211. The other signals C, D are processed through a phase detector 208 and a phase angle calculation circuit 210 so that the phase difference thetab between the signals is applied to the azimuth calculation circuit 211. The signals C, B are transmitted through delay lines 205, 206. The azimuth H' of the incoming electric waves is calculated in the circuit 211 from the phase differences thetaa, thetab between the signals in accordance with a formula I where D denotes the distance between the antennas, taud denotes a delay time and C denotes the velocity of light. Since the D, taud and C are known values, the azimuth can be determined independently of the frequency of the incoming electric waves.
