Abstract

PURPOSE: A hard cast alloy for tools, e.g., die, mold, etc., which is excellent in ductility in particular, manufactured by reducing the N content of a Co-based alloy containing the carbides of Cr and W.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy contains 1.5 to 3.0% C, ≤ 1.0% Si, ≤ 1.0% Mn, 25 to 35% Cr, 8 to 17% W, ≤ 3% Fe, ≤ 0.03% P, ≤ 0.03% S, <1% Ni, ≤ 0.03% N, and Co, in which Cr and W are both crystallized in the form of a hard carbide within the Co base, increasing strength and hardness at high temperatures, and also N content is low, preventing the lowering of high-temperature ductility. The components such as Co, Cr, W, Fe, etc., in the aforesaid proportion are melted in the atmosphere of Ar, and then its N content is reduced by a degassing treatment under vacuum. Then, the molten alloy is cast into die, mold, etc., in the atmosphere of Ar gas.
