Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an embossed plate capable of making decorative materials wherein the gradation of the original is reproduced accurately, by forming a black and white positive and a halftone positive according to gradations from an original of a decorative pattern using a photomechanical process, and by utilizing a composite halftone negative made from both of them.
CONSTITUTION: A negative is prepared from an original, e.g. a grain pattern, by photographing mainly gradations, e.g. grain or color, and a halftone positive is obtained through a contact screen for gravure plate making. A black and white positive is prepared from the same original by photographing mainly lines (textures), such as tracheas or nodes. A composite halftone negative (A) is obtained from the positives. A photosensitive resin is applied to a plate material for an embossing plate, and the halfton negative (A) is placed on the resin, exposed, and developed to form a corrosion-resistant positive image. The plate material is etched by an aqueous solution of ferric chloride or nitric acid, to a desired depth to form high embossing protuberances and fine protuberances having different heights according to the gradation of the orginal.
