814,165. Photomechanical printing surfaces. BEKK & KAULEN CHEMISCHE FABRIK G.m.b.H. Nov. 18, 1957, No. 35827/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2) Intaglio plates or cylinders are made by disposing a photosensitive coating directly on the body to be made into the forme, copying a picture and a screen separately and successively thereon, the screen copying being by light from every direction at inclined incidence so as to intentionally under-irradiate the screen dots, and etching from the exposure side with liquids of successively decreasing strengths so that etching starts from the centre of the screen dots and results in screen cells of dish-like shape with walls inclined to the upper edge of the doctor lands. As further described the body is of copper, the screen is copied by a plurality of light sources or by arranging relative movement between body and light, and etching is effected by successive use of ferric chloride of 42, 40, 38, 36 and 34 degrees Baume.
