Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable a large amt. of molten steel to be vacuum degassed by making the outside diameter of a vacuum vessel smaller than the inside diameter of a molten steel ladle and by sucking molten steel into the vessel through suction pipe while blowing an inert gas into the pipe. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel is charged into ladle 2, and suction pipe 3 of vacuum vessel 1 is dipped in the steel. Since the outside diameter of vessel 1 is smaller than the inside diameter of ladle 2, vessel 1 can freely be put into ladle 2. Simultaneously with evacuating vessel 1 an inert gas such as Ar is spouted from the inside of pipe 3 through inert gas supply pipe 4. A large amt. of molten steel in ladle 2 is rapidly degassed by suction and fall of 3.5 times/min with the press. difference between ladle 2 and vessel 1, and Ar gas spouted. Since vessel 1 can freely enter and leave ladle 2, a drop of vessel 1 in ladle 2 due to a molten steel surface fall in ladle 2 by suction of a large amt. of molten steel does not cause a trouble, so a large amt. of molten steel can be vacuum degassed.
