Abstract

PURPOSE: To forcefully vent the gas produced in a mold and prevent gaseous defects, cracking, shrinkage, etc. by beforehand forming gas venting holes communicating with a main mold and a core to the under surface of the mold for casting.
CONSTITUTION: A communicating hole 8 is formed to the center of a core 7, and gas venting holes 9 such as those which are communicated with the main mold and the communicating hole 8 of the core 7 are formed to the under surface of a mold 1 for casting. Sand 11 is packed in a vessel 10, the mold 1 is disposed on the top surface of the sand 11, and the gas among the sand 11 in the vessel 10 is sucked by a vacuum pump through the suction port 12 opened at one wall surface of the vessel 10 during pouring of molten metal from a sprue 4. Therefore, the inside of the vessel 10 assumes negative pressure and sucks the gas in the mold 1. Particularly the combustion gas produced when the core 7 contacts the molten metal is sucked through the gas venting holes 9. The combustion gas is cooled by passing the inside of the sand 11 and the malodor in the gas is absorbed away by the moisture contained in the sand 11.
