Abstract
PURPOSE: To adsorb and float the inclusions in molten steel by gas bubbles and improve the inclusion removing effect by leading an inert gas to the outside circumference of an air permeable cylinder provided to the ingate of a tundish and allowing the gas bubbles contact the molten steel passing the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A cover plate 20 is mounted to the top face of the independent ingate members 5a, 5a and side wall 2 of a tundish 1a by way of a packing 19. An inert gas lead-in pipe 21 is opened in the central part thereof and an inert gas is filled in a cavity 18. Then, the inert gas infilters through the peripheral wall of the air permeable cylinder 17 and enters the molten metal passing the cylinder 17, by becoming bubbles, thereby contacting and adsorbing the inclusions in the molten steel. Thence, when the molten steel emits from the cylinder 17, the flow of the molten metal is directed in an upward direction by the buoyancy of the bubbles, so that the floating of the inclusions is accelerated. In addition, a foaming device is provided in the lower side of either the inlet or outlet side of the cylinder 17 to lead part of the gas bubbles generated on the inlet side together with the molten steel to the cylinder 17 and to allow the molten steel and bubbles to ascend by the gas bubbles generated on the outlet side, thereby further accelerating the floating and separating of the inclusions.
