Abstract

PURPOSE: A porous composite structure of a hydrophobic resin with a uniform high filler content, comprising the surface treated with a colloidal suspension of a metallic oxide and a filler in the pores of the structure.
CONSTITUTION: A porous structure made of a fluororesin or polypropylene, is immersed in an alcohol, acetone, or surfactant, and then in water to replace the pores with water completely. The structure is then immersed in a colloidal suspension of a metallic oxide, e.g. titanium dioxide, then in an aqueous solution of titanium sulfate, and boiled, or reacted with an aqueous alkali, e.g. potassium hydroxide, to form a white pigment, e.g. titanium dioxide which fills the pores. A pigment, dye, fluorescent material, catalyst, etc. may be used as the filler.
