Abstract

PURPOSE: To make display background much better even if white color material is not dispersed and mixed in electrolyte, increase contrast and make the device thinner by providing the specific porous material impregnated with electrolyte between electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: Aqueous solution of high polymer material showing wettability to electrolyte, e.g., polyvinyl alcohol, and pigments are evenly dispersed and mixed. This mixed solution is mechanically rubbed from both sides of a porous sheet such as polytetrafluoroethylene and is thereby retained in its porous cells. Electrolyte is impregnated in this porous material which is then incorporated as the electrolyte layer of the electrochromic display device.
