Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a clear display on a fine display background by allowing a pigment to be retained in the porous space of a porous body formed as a layer to be impregnated with an electrolyte.
CONSTITUTION: A pigment such as titanium white is allowed to be retained in the porous space of a porous body of polytetrafluoroethylene or the like formed between display and opposite electrodes as a layer to be impregnated with electrolyte by repeating the impregnation and drying of a dispersion of the pigment by the action of ultrasonic waves. The pigment retained in the porous body gives a display background and simultaneously enhances the fittability of the body with the electrolyte. By this mechanism the porous body can be thinned to increase the effect as the display background, and the resulting display device can be reduced in size and weight.
