Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a resistance layer consisting of Zn2SiO4, Zn7Sb2O12 and the like on one side of a voltage non-linear sintered body consisting essentially of ZnO thereby to obtain a voltage non- linear resistance unit in which the terminal voltage abruptly increases by a current of more than a constant value and which is adapted for the parallel connection. CONSTITUTION:A resistance layer 2 consisting of more than a member selected from the group of Zn2SiO4, Zn7Sb2O12 and the like is provided on one side of a voltage non-linear sintered body 3 consisting essentially of ZnO. For instance, to ZnO there are mixed predetermined quantities of Bi2O3, CoO, MnO, Sb2O3, and Cr2O3, and the mixture is pulverized, formed into a disc shape, and sintered at 900 deg.C. Then, a mixture of SiO2, Sb2O3 and Bi2O3 at the weight ratio of 70:20:10, formed into a pasty material by an organic binder is applied on one surface of the sintered body at a thickness of 50 mum. Then, ths sinterd body is burnt for two hours in air at 1250 deg.C, and thereafter aluminum sprayed electrodes 1 are formed on both surfaces the sintered body. By these procesures, the high resistance oxide layer 2 is formed by the reaction between the components of the paste and ZnO, and a unit in which the terminal voltage increases abruptly at a current of more than a constant value can be obtained.
