Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce large quantity of high density sintered material of desired shape inexpensively, by applying current through a primarily sintered material of low density placed in free space under compressing pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material powder 4 is put into a mold 3 and placed between punch-electrodes 1, 2, then current is applied across the electrodes 1, 2 under comparatively low press. of about 10 kg/cm2 so as to produce primary sintered material of density of 60W90%. The primary sintered material 14 is placed in a frame 13 with free space left around it, and current is applied across electrodes 11, 12, which hold the sintered material between them, in a desired atmosphere while the sintered material being compressed under high press. of 200W700 kg/cm2, so that it is deformed. Because the primary sintered material 14 is not in contact with the inner surface of the frame 13, it is freely deformed, buckled, and pressed down, and the structure becomes dense, hence a sintered metal of density about 87W99% is obtained.
