Abstract

PURPOSE: In press compressing coil-like scraps, to reduce the size of the compressed body.
CONSTITUTION: A coil-like scrap 18 is inserted between a pair of side presses 15 and 16 resting on a base 14, and a top press 12 is moved down to linearly compress the scrap 18 along its diameter A. Then, with the press 12 held in situ, cylinders 19 and 20 are operated to cause the presses 15 and 16 to near each other, forming a U-shaped compressed body. With the press 12 released, the presses 15 and 16 are moved further inward so that the U-shaped body is compressed into a smaller compressed body 25. The perpendicular two-direction compression reduces the final size of the compressed body.
