Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture very econominally a high density carbon or graphite sintered body by holding a carbon powder primary burned molded body of relatively low density between a pair of anvils while leaving free space for bulging deformation around the anvils, followed by supply of current under press. and heating.
CONSTITUTION: Raw powder 4 consisting of carbon agregate powder and a binder is filled in mold 3, held between upper and lower punches 1, 2, and heated by supplying current while pressurizing P usually to 50W1000 kg/cm2 to burn and mold powder 4. The resulting primary burned molded body 14 of 60W90% density is held between upper and lower punch electrodes 11, 12 and heated by supplying current under compressive force about equal to or higher than that of the first process.
