Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit battery charging to be obtained even when a load is being driven from an AC power source and also permit an overcharging prevention circuit for the battery to be rendered inoperative when driving the load with the battery after the load has been driven for a long period of time from the AC power source.
CONSTITUTION: A switch 1d is provided between a charging prevention circuit 33 and an overcharging prevention circuit 8, a diode 34 is connected between the juncture between rectifier diodes 3c and 3d and the positive side terminal of a smoothing capacitor 4, and a capacitor 35 is connected between the anode side of the diode 34 and earth for applying the output voltage of the capacitor 35 to the overcharging prevention circuit 33. When driving a load from AC, power source switches 1a and 1d are turned on. As a result, voltage is applied to the load 10, while at the same time voltage is applied from the anode of the diode 34 through a variable resistor 42 to the base of a transistor 36 for charging a battery 5. With the charging the base voltage on the transistor 36 is gradually increased, and when it becomes higher than the base voltage on a transistor 37, transistors 36 and 44 are turned on to stop the charging operation.
