Abstract

PURPOSE:To drive the gate of the thyristor without using any special DC power source by connecting a capacitor between the collector and emitter of a transistor and connecting the capacitor with AC power source through the intermediary of a diode. CONSTITUTION:A load 3, the series circuit of the thyristor 2 and the series circuit of resistances 12, 13 and 6 are connected in parallel to an AC power source 4, while the connecting point of the resistances 12 and 13 is connected to a transistor 8 which connects a capacitor 10 between the collector and emitter through the intermediary of the diode 11, and a current generator 1 is connected to the base of the transistor 8. Accordingly, by the current from the current generator 1, the thyristor 2 is turned off when the transistor 8 is on, while the capacitor 10 is charged to operate to turn the thyristor 2 on when the transistor 8 is turned off, and thus the thyristor 2 can be drived without using any special DC power source.
