Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain the explosion pressure in a combustion chamber under a rated value, by controlling the quantity of air discharged from a supercharger depending on the load on an internal combustion engine and by preventing the pressure rise of scavenging air introduced into the combustion chamber when the temperature of the air is low. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust passage 15 is provided at a halfway part of a pipe 14 for connecting an air cooler 8 to a burning air outlet port 5 of the supercharger 1. The exhaust passage 15 is equipped with a stop valve 13. The outlet end of the exhaust passage 15 is connected to an exhaust pipe 7. The pressure of the scavening air in an intake manifold 9 is detected by a pressure detector 12 installed therein and is compared with a rated pressure. If the pressure of the scavenging air is higher than the rated pressure, throttle valve handle 16 is operated to discharge superfluous air to the exhaust pipe 7 through the exhaust passage 15.
