Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively prevent imperfect hot dipping and formation of pinholes by forming hot dipping metal currents in the direction opposite to that of a metallic material running through a hot dipping metal bath to wipe the material surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic pumps 6 are set along both surfaces of steel strip 4 running through bath 1 in the direction of arrow A, and a current is supplied to inductors 10 protected with refractories 7 to provide magnetic fields, thereby forming molten metal currents in the direction of arrows Q with induction currents. Since arrow A of strip 4 and arrows Q are opposite to each other, oxides on the surface of bath 1 are stirred up and exfoliated by the resistance of the currents, resulting in good hot dipping quality with no imperfect dipping and no pinhole. The currents are formed along the strip surfaces at the side where strip 4 does not contact to the sink roll.
