Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the utilization efficiency of metal hydride by regulating the amount of H2 generated according to the change in the consumption of H2 and by preventing the occurrence of overpressure by the procedure in which supply water between inner wall and outer wall is vaporized to steam by means of a reaction heat produced when H2 is generated by the reaction of the supply water with metal hydride.
CONSTITUTION: When supply water from th water tank 1 is flowed out of the nozzle 13 into the internal container 8, it reacts with CaH2 coming near the nozzle 13 to generate H2 and reaction heat. As the reaction heat builds up, the supply water in the space 11 is heated to water vapor, and the water vapor diffuses widely into the container 8 and undegoes reaction throughout the container, where the amount of H2 generated varies with the amount of water vapor. Thus, the amount of H2 generated varies with amount of consumed H2, and thereby the variation in pressure in the container 8 is reduced. With the build-up of reaction heat to a great extent, the pressure or water vapor in the space 11 is raised and water vapor of more than predetermined pressure is released from the safety valve 10.
