Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an Al alloy with superior castability and weak mechanical properties which alloy is obtd. by alloying Al with a specific amt. of Si, Zn, Fe, etc. and is used to obtain test results of an Al casting in a short time.
CONSTITUTION: A test of an Al casting is carried out in a short time, and the durability and troublesome portions are investigated in an early stage according to the results. So, an Al alloy with lower strength and elongation than those of Al is required as a test Al alloy, and an Al alloy is used contg. Si; 5W13%, Zn; 1W5% and Fe; 0.4W2% or further contg. trace amts. of one or more out of Mn, Cr, Ti, Pb, Sn and Ni if necessary. This alloy has superior fluidity in melting, showing good castability, yet the tensile strength is lower than that of Al and the elongation is below 1%. By casting a test sample of this alloy test results are obtd. in a short time because of brittleness, and parts. of high reliability can be designed in an early stage.
